이런 이유로 여러분을 뵙고 말씀드리고자 오시라고 했던 것입니다.

내가 이렇게 사슬에 메인 것은 이스라엘의 소망 때문입니다.

그들이 이처럼 의견이 갈린 채 헤어질 때에 바울이 한마디 말을 남겼습니다.

“성령께서 예언자 이사야를 통해 여러분의 조상에게 말씀하신 것은 진리입니다.

‘이 백성에게 가서 말하여라.  너희가 듣기는 들어도 깨닫지 못하고 보기는 보아도 알지 못할 것이다.

I asked you to come here today so we could get acquainted and so I could explain to you that

I am bound with this chain because I believe that the hope of Israel-the Messiah-has come.”

And after they had argued back and forth among themselves, they left with this final word from Paul:

“the Holy Spirit was right when he said to your ancestors through Isaiah the prophet,

‘Go and say to this people:

When you hear what I say,

you will not understand.

When you see what I do,

you will not comprehend.
